The corners
For the corners, I played around with several ideas but in the end I settled for rows of 5mm acrylic rods. These were
very hard to find in Sweden and also cost a insane amount of money, so it was looking bad. I was even beginning to think that my design would have to be re-thought on a pretty fundamental level, as the corners are a large part of the overall look!
But that’s until my buddy TribalOverkill came to the rescue and got me the rods I needed. He even cut them to the lengths I needed and shipped them right over! So here's a huge note of thanks to him for being such a great guy. Thanks to the great modding community, we have some modding across the ocean going on here.
Ok, so now that I have some parts, let's get going on those corners!
As soon as I got that package from Tribaloverkill I had to do a test so I arranged the rods around the corners using sticky tape and I must say I liked what I saw a lot.
At this stage I also cut 15mm strips of the black aluminium to make a trim around the edge of the case. Bending these strips o fit the case was not easy and took a fair bit of time...but tape, time and me being stubborn did the trick!
I also made a second aluminium top plate and superglued the strips on to it. It took some time to get those strips bent into exact shape but I finally got it to fit.
The edges were given a woodgrain appearance by applying an adhesive black plastic film with woodgrain around the edge. This was done to get some contrast between the different surfaces. I wanted a more distinct look for the trim and the woodgrain worked very well here.
